Roof Support On Wall

Here's a 2 x 4 or roof support that is sitting on top of a 2 x 4 wall.

The 2 x 4 is supporting the roof ridge, this takes some of the pressure from the ridge and transfers it to the wall.

The wall might not be a bearing wall but as a framing contractor I would recommend this as a good practice when building wood framed roofs.

Always check with your structural engineer before doing something like this. He might have other feelings about this situation and his word is final.

As you can see this ceiling is not insulated and while doing your home inspections you will have to mention this in your reports.

There is also a cut wire, right next to the 2 x 4 roof support. Find out why this wire is cut and where it is going to.

Remember to be careful when walking around in the attic.
